Last week we continued to work on building a classroom community. In my classroom I want every child to feel apart of our class family. In our class family we respect each other and build each other up. I first introduced bucket fillers and bucket dippers. Then we read No David and David Goes to school. We used these books to make an anchor chart about what makes a good student. My students were very quick to call out David’s behavior as being a bucket dipper. They were ecstatic about David so we made David from Julie Lee’s blog. These turned out so adorable. Such a good reminder for what behavior is appropriate for the classroom.
We read Chrysanthemum and discussed how we feel when someone says mean words to us. We feel like the crumpled up heart. And no matter how hard you try to smooth out the wrinkles they are still there. We added band aides to heal our broken heart. Then we brainstormed kind words we can say to each other to make our hearts feel happy. This fabulous idea is a combination of Deanna Jump and Cara Carroll. Thanks ladies.
Now that we have a classroom family built on respect we can have fun doing whole group lessons like this science experiment Deanna Jump posted about. Love this activity!!
